Growing Grape Ape: flowering time, yield and breeder specs

Grape Ape flowers in about 7–8 weeks indoors by Apothecary Genetics’ and Leafly’s accounts, 50–60 days for Royal Queen Seeds’ version and 52–56 days for Barney’s Farm’s, and finishes outdoors from late September. It stays short and dense, and the dense buds are what to watch for mold.1,2,3,4,5

What the plant is like

Expect a short, bushy plant with dense, compact buds. Leafly describes buds wreathed in deep purple leaves that darken toward harvest, Barney’s Farm short, bushy growth with deep green to purple leaves, and Royal Queen Seeds a height of 60–100 cm indoors.2,3,4 The purple is not guaranteed: Royal Queen Seeds says it develops with cooler nights late in flowering, and Leafly explains that the color comes from anthocyanin, with temperature and lighting affecting how much shows.8,9

Leafly recommends 70–80°F at about 50% humidity and clearing lower branches for airflow; its grow guide suggests 68–80°F, 30–40% humidity in flower and moderate to heavy feeding.2,5

What to watch for

Mold in the dense buds. Leafly’s grow guide says indoor growing helps prevent mold in the large, dense buds, recommends clearing the lower canopy for circulation, and suggests compost tea to help prevent powdery mildew; Leafly’s strain page likewise asks for excellent air circulation.2,5

Seeds and the law in the US

Under the amended federal definition of hemp, viable seeds from cannabis plants above 0.3% total THC, including THCA, are not hemp.10 Congress delayed that exclusion, with most of the new definition, from Nov 12 to Dec 11, 2026; only the exclusion of products with cannabinoids the plant cannot produce naturally starts on Nov 12.11 Home cultivation rules are set by each state. This site does not sell seeds.
